ASIA UPDATES

  • 48 foreign universities expressed interest in University Grants Commission’s (UGC) new regulations to encourage twinning, joint degree, and dual degree programmes between Indian and foreign universities.
  • Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) extends the last date to upload the practical, internal assessment and projects for CBSE Classes 10 and 12 Exams 2022 for both the terms. With this, Cambridge International released March 2022 exam series results on May 25, 2022. 
  • Massive fund cut in recurring grants for the higher education budget for 2022-23 affects close to 141 public sector universities in Pakistan.
  • Malaysia implements five intervention initiatives to curb the declining marketability of Malaysian graduates during the pandemic.
  • Close to 35,000 schools in Thailand resumed onsite learning after more than two years on May 17, 2022. 
  • Experts discuss the value and benefits of international accreditation and recognition for higher education in Vietnam.

AFRICA UPDATES

  • The UK’s new High Potential Individual visa aimed at attracting the best graduates from the world’s top universities may risk excluding talent from the African countries.
  • As per UK’s Higher Education Statistics Agency, the number of Nigerian students in the UK increased from 13,020 in 2019-20 to 21,305 in 2020-21, which is an almost 64% increase in a year.
  • German institutions urge Kenyan university students studying or seeking to study locally or in European institutions to apply for scholarships. The support is available for undergraduate students, Masters and PhD scholars from the East African region.
  • To boost innovation and entrepreneurship within the country, the French Embassy in Tanzania injects a grant of 570,000 euros to support higher education students and lecturers.
  • Zimbabwe president emphasises science and technology education to prepare the young generation for opportunities in the digital economy.
