ASIA UPDATES: Malaysia, Singapore & Thailand Eases Travel Curbs

  • India begins granting tourist visas for foreigners visiting India through chartered flights. Foreigners visiting India on bubble flights or scheduled commercial flights will only be allowed from November 15, 2021. 
  • Malaysia reveals its plans to pull the plug on its travel restrictions and reopen its international borders for fully vaccinated tourists from any country in November. 
  • Singapore eases lockdown restrictions and will allow quarantine-free travel from 11 countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, United States, Canada and others. India is not included in this list for now.  
  • Considering the popularity of distance learning in the Philippines, the tablet market in the country grew by 97.9% in the second quarter of 2021.
  • In a recent development, the US emphasizes its commitment to boost education in Vietnam through ‘The Higher Education Innovation Cooperation Project’. The project will be implemented in five years, with a budget of 14.2 million USD to improve teaching in three major universities in Vietnam.
  • Thailand eases travel curbs and will reopen its borders to vaccinated tourists from low-risk countries from November 1, 2021. 

AFRICA UPDATES: Ethiopia And Algeria Collaborate To Boost Education Sector

  • Ethiopia and Algeria collaborate to improve education and research in the two countries. 
  • As per the September edition of QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2022, two South African universities rank among the top 200 institutions globally for equipping the skills in graduates required for the modern workplace.
  • Zambia ramps up the COVID-19 vaccination program to inoculate 70% of the eligible population.
  • After considering the need to follow necessary precautions, Libya will allow 181 public and private universities to resume in-person classes from mid-October.
  • UK changes travel rules for fully vaccinated travelers from Nigeria.
  • Kenya opens its borders for Indians. Indians no longer need to undergo quarantine if they test negative for the COVID-19 test, which was taken 96 hours before travel.

EURASIA UPDATES: Coronavirus Cases Surge In Turkey, Russia

  • COVID-19 cases surge in Turkey, especially among children.
  • Due to the spike in infections and lagging vaccination progress, Russia registers an increase in daily deaths count due to coronavirus.

STUDY DESTINATIONS UPDATE: Ireland Wins Best Country For Response To Pandemic 

  • Travelers fully vaccinated with a Therapeutic Goods Administration-approved vaccine will be allowed to fly into New South Wales, Australia without quarantining themselves from November 1, 2021.
  • Ireland bags the title of the ‘Best country’ for its response to pandemics in Bloomberg Covid Resilience Ranking. This win for Ireland can be attributed to its proactive measures to contain the spread of the virus and swift vaccination programs. 
  • The UK lifts compulsory quarantine rule for Indians who are fully vaccinated with Covishield or any other UK-approved vaccine. 
  • The US will lift the travel ban for vaccinated Indian travelers from November 2021. However, a negative RT-PCR test taken 72 hours prior to travel will still be required. 
  • The US plans to ease land travel restrictions for vaccinated travelers from Canada and Mexico from November in a staggered manner.  
  • Amid new COVID-19 cases, New Zealand tights border restrictions.
