ASIA UPDATES

  • Indian union education minister said the twice-a-year board exam format will be rolled out from the 2024-25 academic year, which will be adopted from the 2025 board exams for class X and XII.
  • Enroly’s latest report reveals a 4.8% increase in CAS issuance for British universities, but decline in student enrolments from India and Nigeria, with the sharpest decline of 21.42% seen in Nigeria.
  • School fees for permanent residents (PR) and international students attending government and government-aided schools in Singapore will increase over the next three years from 2024 to 2026.
  • The RM16.3 billion allocation to Malaysia’s higher education sector in the Budget 2024 benefited everyone and facilitated student welfare.

  • Despite alleged scholarship fund embezzlement by their local government, 26 Kenyan nursing students from Uasin Gishu County have successfully graduated from a two-year nursing program in Finland with above-average grades, including Finnish language studies.
  • According to the 2022/23 Student Confidence Index by the PPS for Professionals surveying over 2,400 students, 90% of South African university students are seeking employment opportunities abroad. This is due to concerns about crime, corruption, job prospects, infrastructure, and the cost of living.
  • Due to a lack of teaching materials and limited teaching methods, Ethiopia’s education ministry revealed that only 3% of high school students successfully passed the university entry exam, with only 27,000 out of 845,188 students meeting the 50% admission requirement mark.
