United States | Announces new tranche of interview slots
The US embassy announces new interview slots for students having I-20 who need to apply for visa categories F, M and J at the Embassy and Consulates. This applies to interviews taking place after August 14. Read more here
Canada | Extends post-graduation work permit
Canada extends work permits by 18 months under the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP). This applies to international students who no longer have it, or the visa will expire between September 20, 2021 and December 31, 2022. Read more here
Australia | Releases requirements for 485 replacement visa
Australia releases criteria requirements for 485 replacement visa, under which Current and former Temporary Graduate visa holders who lost their time in Australia due to travel restrictions can be eligible for a replacement Temporary Graduate visa. Read more here
United Kingdom | Emerges as a top study destination for the Indian students
As per British High Commission in India, close to 108,000 visas for Indian students were issued for the year ending March 2022, which is 93% higher than the previous year. Read more here
Ireland | Government to give €5,000 cash boost to thousands of students
Thousands of Irish students will receive a €5,000 payment from the government to help with education costs and improve access to educational opportunities under the bursary scheme. Read more here
New Zealand | Visa rules eased for travel between the UK and New Zealand
The UK and New Zealand ease visa rules by extending Youth Mobility and Working Holiday schemes to encourage young people to live and work in both countries. Read more here

- Egypt and Latvia join hands to promote cooperation in education and scientific research between the countries.
- The UAE and Malaysia discuss mutually recognising education certificates and accreditations from each other’s higher learning institutions.
ASIA UPDATES
- The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) term 2 class 10 and 12 results are expected by July 15. CBSE also collaborates with UNICEF and YuWaah to imbibe 21st-century skills in school students at an early age and make such skills more accessible.
- The UK government partners with India’s leading businesses to offer 75 fully-funded scholarships to Indian students to study in the UK from September, the highest ever for the one-year master’s programme.
- As COVID-19 restrictions led to a drop in their parents’ incomes, close to 238,707 students in Thailand dropped out of school last year.
- The UK and Vietnam discuss ways to enhance the countries’ educational cooperation, including digital transformation in tertiary and general education, environmental education, English language training, examination, student exchange, and postgraduate training.
- Amid the fuel crisis, all schools in Sri Lanka’s Colombo region and surrounding regions will remain closed.
- The UK announces a £130 million bilateral program to support girls’ education in Pakistan. Also, a cohort of vice-chancellors representing 15 partner universities of the USAID-funded Higher Education Strengthening Activity (HESSA) discusses ideas to improve the quality of education in Pakistan’s Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
- Malaysian students can resume offline learning in New Zealand starting August 2022.
AFRICA UPDATES
- As per the Nigeria Market Sentiments and Study Motivations 2022 report, 90% of Nigerian students want to leave the country and study abroad.
- Eastern African countries, including Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania began cooperation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) after adopting the Regional TVET Qualifications Framework. This is expected to promote regional mobility of students and skilled workers.
- A new funding formula for public varsities, which will see colleges with more graduates who get jobs get more money is expected to be out from July next year in Kenya.
- Ghana hosts Education and Finance ministers from Western and Central African countries to discuss a new education strategy spearheaded by the World Bank to improve learning outcomes.
- Honoris United Universities, Africa’s largest private higher education network, aims to expand in new markets such as Egypt, Kenya and Côte d’Ivoire.
- Uganda National Examinations Board will follow the abridged curriculum for 2022 examinations.
