United States | Issues 14,600 Indian students visas

Canada | Preferred for the safety and stability

Canada extends work permits by 18 months under the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP). This applies to international students who no longer have it, or the visa will expire between September 20, 2021 and December 31, 2022. Read more here

United Kingdom | Visa processing time reduced from five to three weeks

As per the latest UK student visa update, UK student visa processing times have been reduced from five to three weeks for students from certain countries such as India, Cambodia, Indonesia and Nigeria. Read more here

ASIA UPDATES

  • The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Board announced class 12 exams results on their websites on July 22, 2022. It has declared consolidated results of term 1 and term 2 exams marks.
  • The Higher Education Council of India (HECI) looks to replace the University Grants Commission (UGC), the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) to become a single higher education regulator this year.
  • (Bangladesh Accreditation Council) BAC plans to offer accreditation to public and private universities will boost higher education in Bangladesh and help universities attain more recognition.
  • Philippines allows colleges and universities to decide on the appropriate learning mode and if face-to-face classes are required.
  • Malaysia is working on a new Internationalisation Policy and Higher Education Internationalisation Action Plan to position Malaysia as a regional and global education hub.
  • With home to 3,000+ startups, Vietnam emerges as one of the newest and most dynamic startup scenes in Asia, according to the KPMG and HSBC’s recently released ‘Emerging Giants in Asia Pacific’ report.

AFRICA UPDATES

  • As per the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, Moroccan students made up the largest part (12%) of France’s foreign student population for the year 2021.
  • Nigeria, having the highest number of out-of-school children in sub-Saharan Africa, aims to trim the number of out-of-school children by at least 70% within the next eight years.
  • South African higher learning institutions urged to develop and implement the country’s Language Policy Framework for Public Higher Education Institutions.
  • The $8 million STEM project funded by the Korean government and implemented by the Ghana Education Service (GES) will benefit 400 Junior High Schools (JHSs) and train over 48,000 teachers and students in STEM programmes.
  • Egypt allocates 85 bn pounds for universities and higher education institutions in the FY 2022-23 budget.
  • The National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA) announced the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations (ACSEE) results, stating that the pass rate had increased to 99.87%.
  • Turkey will offer a total of 111 scholarships to Nigerian students to pursue studies in Turkish universities.
