ASIA UPDATES: CBSE To Split Board Exams For Class 10 And Class 12 In Two Terms
- The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) decided to split 2021 board exams for Class 10 and Class 12 into two terms, with 50% of the syllabus in each term.
- CISCE Board announces modifications for the assessment at the ICSE (Class X) and ISC (Class XII) levels for the academic year 2021-22.
- As per the UNICEF research, school closures in South Asian regions such as India, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Pakistan have impeded the learning of approx. 434 million students in these regions.
- Malaysia’s Education Ministry (MOE) allows only fully vaccinated students of private universities, polytechnics and community colleges to return to campus, while partially vaccinated students to continue with online lessons.
- Thailand’s Education Ministry aims to reopen schools by November 2021.
- The United States Agency for International Development awarded Indiana University $14.2 million to modernize three largest Vietnam universities.
- Despite parent’s reservations about in-person learning, many schools in Jakarta, Indonesia, reopened schools for students.

AFRICA UPDATES: Nigeria Reopens In-Person Classes In Schools
- Egypt to announce high school exams results for the current academic year 2020-2021. The country also makes vaccinations mandatory for everyone involved in the educational process.
- Global universities offer scholarships to Nigerian students for online learning to encourage them to join their institutions.
- As per the 2021 Economic Survey, the education sector in Kenya registered a 10.7% decline in 2020.
- According to THE World University Rankings 2022, African and Middle East universities have made the most progress since 2018. Out of the total 1,662 featured universities, close to 71 African universities made a mark. Out of these 71 universities, 23 were in Egypt, 11 in South Africa, and 11 in Algeria.
- South Africa’s higher education sector adoption of education technology remains uneven and subdued.
- The Government of Zimbabwe provides 600 laptops to colleges to support e-learning at polytechnics.

EURASIA UPDATES: Turkey Starts In-Person Classes For Higher Learning Institutions And Schools
- Amid looming fears of a fourth wave, Hungarian students will get back to school for in-person classes in a few days. Till now, approximately 90% of teachers have been vaccinated.
- After a year’s disruption in learning, Turkey’s higher learning institutions start classes on September 13, 2021. Also, the country reopened schools on September 6, 2021 for a new school year for more than 18 million students.

- As per QS Masters in Management rankings, the University of Sydney Business School ranks first in Australia and 26th worldwide.
- Universities in France return to 100% in-person classes for the new academic year for approx. 2.8 million university students. They don’t need to hold a health passport to return to full classes.
- Ireland resumes short-stay visa processing for Indians who are fully vaccinated with Covishield. The same came into effect from September 13, 2021, and is expected to benefit travelers from other countries, such as China, the Philippines, and Pakistan.
