The UK to open a new visa pathway
The country plans to attract high-skilled foreign university graduates from May 30, 2022. Under the High Potential Individual (HPI) visa, it will allow the world’s top university graduates to work and stay in the country for two or three years, depending on their degree level. Read more
Australia waives off visa renewal charges
Australia has decided to waive off visa application charges for people whose tourist visas expire between March 20, 2020 and June 30, 2022. People can make the application as well as check the status online. Read more here
Immigration to the U.S. recovers as borders reopen
After the plunge due to the coronavirus outbreak, the number of immigrants receiving green cards in the US as permanent residents bounced back to pre-pandemic levels last year. Read more
ASIA UPDATES
- New UGC regulations allow students to get “Dual Degrees” from both foreign and Indian institutes.
- Following the recently inked deal, India and Australia are working on a dual degree programme, which will improve recognition of both countries’ higher education qualifications.
- India-US to strengthen cooperation in the Field of Education and Skill Development. With this, India also signed a deal with the Maldives for cooperation in education.
- Indonesia inaugurates Monash University, the country’s first foreign university.
- HEC’s Higher Education Development in Pakistan (HEDP) project hosted a meeting with 11 universities to develop high-quality asynchronous online courses as part of the new undergraduate core curriculum nationwide.
- As border restrictions ease, Malaysia sets eyes on Australia to expand its reach and promote the country as a preferred destination.
- Vietnam and the UK explore the potential for stronger education cooperation.
AFRICA UPDATES
- The Nigerian government approves establishment of 12 private universities across the country.
- Egypt and the US discuss five areas of joint interest, including education.
- Ghana’s Ministry of Education discusses ways to make education inclusive, engaging and adaptive for all stakeholders.
- UK launches £89 million Shule Bora education initiative that will improve learning outcomes for over 4 million children in Tanzania.
- Over 97 million children in Africa are out of school. Back2School research, funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) seeks to enhance learning models for out of school children, especially for rural girls from Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania to get back into school.
