ASIA UPDATES

  • As per the data from loan providers and education consultants, nearly 40-45% of the Indian students applying for courses in the US, UK, Europe, Australia, and elsewhere are women.
  • According to a new study of post-pandemic student mobility trends, Southeast Asian students aiming to study abroad now look at countries within their continent. Japan and South Korea are now among the top five destinations for students from Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
  • The World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) approves accreditation of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, enabling Pakistani medical graduates to pursue postgraduate training and practice in the US and other countries on the WFME list.
  • The government of Malaysia has introduced a new one-year Graduate Pass, allowing international students from 23 countries to remain in the country for a year after their studies.
  • The President of Sri Lanka said that the country needs a new education system that aligns with global standards and can prepare professionals for a competitive world market.

  • Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training makes a move to halt the use of International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores for direct high school admissions or for granting bonus points to candidates to uphold fairness in high school admissions and emphasize merit-based admissions.

AFRICA UPDATES

  • The Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) has urged the government to increase primary and secondary education funding to save parents from exorbitant fees and ensure smooth learning.
  • The Federal Government of Nigeria has developed a four-year strategic plan for senior secondary education in Nigeria (2024 –2027) in line with the ongoing efforts to reposition and boost secondary education in the country.
  • According to a report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) based on the 2022 national census, Tanzania’s literacy rate soars to 83 percent, up from 78.1 percent in 2012, reflecting the success of governmental education initiatives to improve literacy across the nation.
  • The Canadian-funded and designed Liberian Learning Centre is set to be unveiled in Liberia to revitalize education in the country and will comprise modern libraries, business incubation centers, and sports and recreation facilities, among others.
  • The African Union (AU) launches a campaign to expand opportunities for girls to access education across the continent.
