ASIA UPDATES
- The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), India, directs schools to inform students and parents about the 75% attendance requirement to appear for Class 10 and 12 exams.
- The National University of Singapore (NUS) has launched the NUS Industry-Relevant PhD Scholarship (NUS-IRP), allowing individuals interested in research to pursue a PhD in a supportive academic environment.
- China’s new Degree Act, set to be implemented on 1 January 2025, offers more scope for Chinese universities to offer joint degrees with international partners independently.
- With official accreditation from the Thai Ministry of Education, TEFL One takes another significant step forward in cementing its status as a top-tier certification provider and training aspiring English teachers to gain the skills and qualifications they need to succeed.
- As of July 2024, Vietnam has 11 higher education institutions that meet international quality standards and are accredited by five foreign organizations with various evaluation criteria.
- The University of Essex and global education provider Beaconhouse International College have joined forces to launch a transnational education partnership in Pakistan, providing a range of business, law and technology courses to students across major cities in the country.
- The United States government provides P485 million in funding to advance basic education across the Philippines.
AFRICA UPDATES
- Morocco is ramping up its efforts to train engineers, with approximately 11,000 students graduating annually from various specialities.
- USAID Edtech Africa initiative aims to enhance tech education in Kenya and the US and teach the skills needed to thrive in the digital age.
- The Ghana Education Service (GES) acknowledges difficulties in the 2024 Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) for Senior High Schools.
- The Ministry of Education and Sports has directed private Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) providers to register and declare their operations, as part of the government’s ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing quality assurance in vocational education in Uganda.
