ASIA UPDATES: Malaysia To Reopen Borders To Travellers 

  • India issues revised COVID guidelines for international travellers in view of the emergence of the new Omicron variant. People travelling to India from high-risk countries need to undergo a mandatory RT-PCR test on arrival at the airport. Plus, for those testing negative, a 7-day home quarantine and RT-PCR test on the eighth day is mandatory.
  • Malaysia to reopen borders to international visitors by January 1, 2022. 
  • The Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training and authorities of the Canadian westernmost province of British Columbia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost educational cooperation and exchange. 
  • Starting from November 29, 2021, Singapore announces quarantine-free travel for fully inoculated visitors from India and Indonesia.
  • The Philippines approves a plan to allow entry to vaccinated foreign tourists.
  • Pakistan to consider the complete syllabus while conducting schools and colleges annual examinations.
  • To allow people to travel to both countries easily, India and Nepal signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to recognise the COVID-19 vaccination certificate.
  • Hong Kong is unlikely to open its borders to international travellers before mid-2022.

AFRICA UPDATES: Egyptian Students Required To Take Vaccination Before Attending Exams

  • Considering the new COVID-19 variant, many countries (US, Canada, EU) impose travel bans on flights from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and many other southern African countries.
  • The UK looks to Nigeria for opportunities to develop transnational education partnerships (TNE) in the country.
  • Egyptian students are required to get vaccinated against COVID to attend exams.
  • Children aged below 18 and travelling with fully vaccinated adults are not required to self-isolate upon arrival in Tunisia. 
  • Along with an accelerated vaccination rollout, Kenya announces new health regulations to contain the spread of the infection.
  • Rwanda scraps the mandatory quarantine policy for fully vaccinated travellers while they wait for their test results. 
  • Ghana’s Ministry of Education to roll out policies to boost the quality of the education in the country.

EURASIA UPDATES: COVID-19 Cases Rises In Hungary

  • COVID-19 cases rise in Hungary as it registers more than 25,000 new daily cases. The countrymakes booster shots mandatory for the healthcare staff. 
  • Amid a new wave of COVID-19 cases, Russia will introduce mandatory health passes that allow people to access restaurants and public transport. 
  • Turkey modifies quarantine rules for vaccinated Indian travellers. Passengers are required to submit a negative RT-PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before the trip. With this, the risk of coronavirus infection drops in the country owing to the robust vaccination drive. 

STUDY DESTINATIONS UPDATE: Australia To Reopen Borders To Fully Vaccinated International Students

  • According to Cambridge International’s Annual Destinations Survey, the pandemic has caused massive disruption across the global education sector as students are confused about where to study. 
  • Australia to reopen borders to fully vaccinated foreign students and skilled worker categories from December 1, 2021. This will positively impact businesses and universities in major cities such as Sydney and Melbourne.
  • New Zealand universities are optimistic about the arrival of international students in the middle of the next year. . 
  • International students returning to US colleges strengthen. However, the number is still lower than pre-COVID levels.  
  • Ireland allocates €15 million to revamp the passport processing system.
  • Canada and Hong Kong to allow entry to Indian travellers fully vaccinated with Covaxin.
