ASIA UPDATES: Hong Kong’s Higher Education Institutions Begin Filming Classes

  • At approx. 11,300, India witnessed a decline in daily COVID-19 infections as of November 13, 2021. The recovery rate stands at 98.2%, while the mortality rate stands at just 1.3%.  
  • India’s COVID-19 vaccination is now accepted by 96 countries, including Canada, the US, UK, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Turkey, Greece, Finland, and more.
  • A few recently reopened schools in Thailand close again as suspected COVID-19 cases rise. Students who work and study in Thailand’s universities can see increased time limits to complete their studies. 
  • Hong Kong’s higher education institutions begin filming classes as ‘national security education’ gets rolled out. 
  • Universities from the UK, Canada, Germany, Australia, Hungary, and more offer full scholarships to Pakistani students who have limited resources to pursue higher studies in these countries. 
  • Japan’s government is mulling to announce new border measures to allow the entry of international students.
  • Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Nepal continues children’s education.

AFRICA UPDATES: The United States Embassy In Nigeria To Resume International Student Visa Applications

  • In light of soaring student unrest cases, Kenya’s education ministry directs all primary and secondary schools to remain closed till November 23, 2021. 
  • Keeping in mind the significant demand, the University of Cape Town, South Africa, announces an expanded scholarship programme for its new online school that will be commenced in January 2022.
  • Ghana’s Ministry of Education plans to introduce policies to improve access to quality education in the country. 
  • In line with its endeavour to enhance access to quality higher education for young Nigerians, the European Union invites applications for next year’s Erasmus+ scholarship programme. The United States Embassy in Nigeria will resume international student visa applications from November 24, 2021. 
  • Zimbabwe and Russia join hands to sign a Memorandum of Understanding in higher education.

EURASIA UPDATES: Hungary Offers Annual Scholarships To Liberian Students

  • Russia registers 9 million coronavirus infections and a new daily record of COVID-19 deaths at approx. 1,219.
  • To curb the spread of infection, Turkey will start booster shots for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Hungary offers annual scholarships to Liberia for students who wish to study in Hungarian universities.

STUDY DESTINATIONS UPDATE: New Zealand Plans To Welcome Approx. 10,000 International Students

  • As borders remained closed, international student applications for Australian universities crashed by 51% since March 2021. 
  • New Zealand plans to welcome close to 10,000 international students in mid-2002.
  • Canada launches a $95 million study and work opportunity program for outbound students. This program is expected to cater to more than 16,000 college and undergraduate-level students by 2025.
  • The US to provide automatic work authorisation permits to H-1B visa holders spouses. Also, starting November 8 2021, international travellers need to provide proof of vaccination prior to boarding their flights for the US.
